September's Classic Non-Fiction Standard Box : 'The Borden Murders'
The book for the classic non-fiction box is 'The Borden Murders' by Sarah Miller. This book is stated to be an in-depth view of the 1892 axe murders that shocked the world, Lizzie Borden and the trial:
"August 4,1892: Lizzie Borden calls out frantically for help. When the maid and the neighbors come running, they find Lizzie's father, Andrew Borden, lying murdered in the sitting room of the Borden home at 92 Second Street in Fall River, Massachusetts. Soon after, the body of Lizzie's stepmother, Abby, is discovered upstairs. As the minutes give way to hours, one person rises to the top of the list of suspects: Lizzie herself. But how could a mild-mannered young woman from a prominent family be an axe murderer? In a compelling narrative, Sarah Miller investigates the chilling crime - from the gruesome details of that fateful August day to Lizzie's dramatic court battles to the role of sensational newspaper headlines played in swaying public opinion. Enhanced by period photos, newspaper clippings, and yes, even an image from the crime scene, this is middle-grade nonfiction that races like a true-crime novel. Prepare to devour it and to grapple with the same questions a nation asked itself over a century ago: Did Lizzie do it? And if not, who did? "
The standard box is like a deluxe box, it came with: the book of the genre I chose( classic non-fiction) , a nice sized pouch of tea, a snack, a mug, two bookish items and a bookmark.
SNACK: A handmade pear marshmallow from the Marshmallow Cart in Portland, ME.
This is one of the BEST marshmallows I have ever tasted! It was very soft and had just the right amount of pear flavor in it. To my disappointment, you can't mail order these marshmallows from the Marshmallow Cart. I would have ordered at least a dozen of these babies, it was that good!
BOOKISH ITEM 1: A heathered grey journal.
This isn't a cheaply made journal, either. Being someone who hordes notebooks, I was very happy to see a journal in the box. The saying on the front is just a plus for the true crime lover in me.
BOOKMARK: A handmade metal chain bookmark.
How cute is this bookmark?? It's going to take a lot for me to stop using this. This was the perfect bookmark to pick for this book, I applaud Coffee and a Classic for this one!
BOOKISH ITEM 2: A Lizzie Borden bath bomb from Etsy seller DeasHolidayHut.
The true crime lover in me absolutely went crazy when I took the bath bomb out of its box to find an axe wedged into the top of it! The scent matches the theme as well: dragon's blood. The best part is that the axe is part of the bath bomb, not a plastic toy.
MUG: A 13 oz ceramic 'True Crime' coffee mug.
This was my favorite item in the entire box (which was hard to choose), but to have myself summed up on a coffee mug was a wonderful thing! The outside is black, but the entire inside is the same red as the handle.
TEA: White pear and spiced green tea with cinnamon from Adagio Teas.
I love the name of this tea, very fitting, but the review of this tea will accompany the review of the book.
This is my first box from Coffee and a Classic, and I am very happy with it! I think people who love to sit down with a good book and a cup of something hot will love this box. I highly recommend it!
